Memorial Bench "The Book of the Alley" in Klaipėda

Klaipėda's artistic gem – "The Book of the Alley" located on the famous Martynas Mažvydas Pedestrian Alley is a one-of-a-kind sculptural bench that seamlessly blends functional street design with historical storytelling.

Crafted from colored granite and stainless steel, this outdoor installation was created by the renowned Lithuanian artists Romualdas Martinkus and Aras Martinkus. Unveiled on September 14, 2017, the sculptural piece was gifted to the city by the "Bega" stevedoring company in celebration of its 25th anniversary. The open book mounted on the bench documents the rich history of Klaipėda's very first pedestrian avenue, honors its project creators, and lists its patrons, turning an ordinary rest stop into an open-air historical archive.
