Welcome to Redzet.lv

The portal redzet.lv is a digital project created and developed by photographer Aivars Gulbis, dedicated to documenting and promoting Latvia's nature, cultural heritage, and points of interest. The project was developed in close collaboration with like-minded programmer Artis, who handles the portal's technical development, maintenance and ongoing modernization, while the design was created by Aivars daughter, Aija.

The portal's content primarily consists of over 40,000 photographs taken by Aivars, accompanied by descriptions, covering Latvia's nature, wildlife, architecture, and various tourist attractions. Users can access free smaller-size images, while high-resolution images are available for a symbolic fee.

A key section of the portal is "Travel Around Latvia", which features around 2,000 points of interest - castles, manors, churches, natural landmarks, bridges, lighthouses, and other significant sites. Each entry includes a location on the map, a description, photographs, and navigation options. Most of these locations have been personally visited and documented by the author. Integration of Lithuanian points of interest has also begun.

The goal of the portal is to foster interest in Latvia's beauty, inspire travel, and provide informative support to anyone wishing to explore the country's natural and cultural treasures.

The project is developed on a voluntary basis using personal funds, as the portal's income does not cover its maintenance costs.

Development history

Aivars Gulbis began photography in 2005. Over time, his passion grew into a serious endeavor - the organized photo exhibitions and published the photo book “Golden Moments of the Gray Everyday”. The desire to share his work with a broader audience led to the creation of his first website in 2009. After losing it due to a cyberattack, the new portal redzet.lv was launched in 2013.

In the following years, the portal has been significantly developed: a keyword and description system was implemented, English-language content was expanded (since 2017), and the "Travel Around Latvia" section was created in 2020. The design and functionality are regularly updated and improved.

Author's contribution
