Multifunctional Sundial in Klaipėda

Located on the Martynas Mažvydas Pedestrian Avenue (M. Mažvydo alėja) in Klaipėda, Lithuania, this unique urban object combines a practical granite and wooden bench with a functional horizontal sundial. This piece is part of an ongoing open-air art project where local artists and patrons decorated the avenue's benches with distinct bronze and stone sculptures, creating a playful interactive gallery. The metal sundial face integrated into the edge of the bench features Roman numerals and a decorative gnomon (shadow caster) that accurately displays local solar time on sunny days, making it both a historical nod and a popular meeting spot for locals and tourists.
