The "Marsas" Sculpture in Klaipėda

In the heart of Klaipėda's Old Town, along the pedestrian M. Mažvydas Alley, rests one of the city's most charming and interactive urban landmarks — a granite bench shaped like a dachshund named "Marsas" (Mars).

This witty piece of street art seamlessly blends functionality with creativity. The dog’s head, paws, and tail are crafted from solid polished granite, while the body features a comfortable wooden seating area for pedestrians. The sculpture is part of a unique open-air initiative where local businesses and artists sponsored decorative benches to revitalize the alleyway. Today, "Marsas" is a beloved meeting spot, a playground favorite for children, and an iconic photo stop for visitors exploring Lithuania’s port city.
