The bas-relief shows a seated man in a long robe and a rounded cap, holding a sheet of paper or a book in his hands. He sits in a chair against a background of bookshelves carved behind him – several rows of neatly arranged books fill much of the scene.

To the right of the figure stands a separate elongated stone tablet bearing several lines of text, with a name inscribed beneath. The text is arranged in vertical lines, one word per line, forming a short quotation.

This panel is part of the larger monument and is dedicated to the theme of language – the seated figure together with the inscribed quotation beside him symbolises the importance of the written word and education.
