Modern Stone Sculpture: A Gem of the Klaipėda Sculpture Park
The artwork captured in the image is one of the many modernist granite pieces located within the Klaipėda Sculpture Park (also known as Martynas Mažvydas Sculpture Park) in Lithuania. Established in 1977 on the grounds of a former city cemetery, this open-air gallery features over 100 unique sculptures crafted by Lithuanian artists during summer symposiums between 1977 and 1991.
This specific sculpture stands out with its massive, monumental geometry and raw, textured surface. The main body consists of a heavy granite block divided vertically by a dark line, topped with a prominent horizontal bar. The shape heavily hints at maritime symbolism—resembling mooring bollards or abstract anchor components—which beautifully mirrors the identity of Klaipėda as a historic port city. Following recent park renovations, visitors can now scan QR codes on the plaques next to the artworks to listen to their digital audio stories.
