J. Basanavičius Square in Marijampolė is a spacious, stone-paved pedestrian area that links the surrounding buildings to a central monument in the distance. Rows of symmetrically planted, round-crowned trees line both sides of the walkway, their shade covering stone benches set along the path for passersby to rest. At the far end of the square stands a slender, light-colored obelisk-like monument, forming a clear focal point for the entire promenade.
The square is framed on either side by multi-story buildings: on the left, a light-toned residential building with balconies and ground-floor shops, and on the right, a yellow administrative building with a flag flying above its roofline. Closer to the monument, a modern glass-fronted structure stands out against the older surrounding architecture. Planters filled with red flowers sit near some of the benches, adding a touch of color to the paved space.
