Lake Talsi

Lake Talsi (also known as Martinelli Lake) is located in the very center of Talsi town. The lake features predominantly steep shores and a notable depth, with an average depth of 11.6 meters and a maximum depth of 16.5 meters. It covers an area of 3.6 hectares. Its southern shores are slightly overgrown with water lilies, sweet flags, reeds, and cattails. The lake is home to fish species such as roach, bream, tench, crucian carp, and pike.

The lake forms an essential part of the town's famous landscape:

• To the east, Talsi Hillfort rises 30 meters above the water level.

• To the west lies Ķēniņkalns (King's Hill), featuring the "Koklētājs" monument dedicated to the fighters of the Latvian War of Independence.

• To the north, views open up toward Baznīckalns (Church Hill) and the historic old town.

A well-maintained promenade with a wooden boardwalk surrounds the lake, which is decorated with a central water fountain, making it a favorite walking spot for both locals and visitors.
