Monument to V. Kernagis' song "When the cherries are blooming in Suwalki...", Marijampolė
This image shows a unique sculpture located in the Poetry Park of Marijampolė, Lithuania. The monument is dedicated to the song "Kai sirpsta vyšnios Suvalkijoj..." ("When cherries ripen in Suvalkija...") by the legendary Lithuanian singer-songwriter Vytautas Kernagis. It is the central piece situated on a raised, stone-paved platform at the intersection of park pathways. The sculpture is crafted from large, shaped granite blocks and bronze elements, forming a stylized composition featuring cherries.
The main part of the monument is a massive stone semi-circle with the song title in Lithuanian and Vytautas Kernagis' name engraved on it. Above it, ripe bronze cherries with stems and a leaf stand out, providing a visual reference to the song's theme. Text fragments are also engraved along the edge of the paved platform at the base of the sculpture. The composition is positioned to be clearly visible from various parts of the park.
