Concrete coastal reinforcements and ice formations on Užava beach
In this winter landscape near the Užava lighthouse, massive concrete coastal reinforcements are positioned along the base of the dune to protect the shore from erosion. These geometric blocks are densely stacked and partially covered with layers of snow and ice, creating a jagged and rugged coastline. In the background, a snowy slope rises, covered by a dark green pine forest.
The seawater near the shore has frozen into a thin layer of ice and white ice ridges. A larger, elongated ice formation stands out in the center, featuring a porous and brilliant white texture. In the distance, near the coastal reinforcements, a single figure dressed in dark clothing is visible, emphasizing the grand scale of the coastal structures and natural elements.
The daylight evenly illuminates the snowy surfaces, creating a clear and cold atmosphere. The various textures of ice and snow—ranging from smooth frozen patches to grainy mounds—form a dynamic visual composition. This location vividly illustrates the interaction between engineering works and natural elements along the Baltic Sea coast during the winter season.
