Seda Town, Lithuania

Seda is a small yet historically meaningful town in north-western Lithuania, located in the Mažeikiai District Municipality (Telšiai County), about 24 km south-west of Mažeikiai. It serves as the centre of the local eldership (seniūnija) and lies near important regional roads, making it a convenient stop while exploring the Samogitia (Žemaitija) region.

The town is strongly shaped by its natural surroundings. The Varduva River flows through Seda, bringing a calm rhythm to the landscape and forming a scenic setting for the settlement. In addition, Lake Sedula lies on the eastern edge of the town, adding to Seda’s peaceful character and natural appeal.

Although Seda is compact in size, it has a distinct identity typical of Lithuanian small towns—quiet streets, a close-knit community atmosphere, and a strong regional sense of place. Recent sources suggest the town’s population is around 900 residents, with figures varying slightly depending on the year of statistical reporting.

Today, Seda appeals to visitors who value authentic local landscapes, riverside scenery, and a slower travel pace. It is a destination where nature, regional culture, and history meet—offering a simple yet memorable glimpse into the spirit of Samogitia.
