Ventspils Creative Centre

In 1912 built Latvian Society House is now renovated, and it houses Ventspils Pupils’ Creativity House. The building still maintains the main hall, which is well-known in Ventspils for its great acoustics, and it can host up to 320 people. The new planetarium gives visitors the ability not only to observe the Sun and other stars, but also to watch 3-D films on various topics (natural life, depth’s of the ocean, and outer-space). Also an observatory fitted with a digital telescope for exploration of the breath-taking planets is situated in the Creativity House. Even the backyard has become a reproduction of a city’s road network with all the pedestrian crossings, traffic lights and signs in order to educate the children and remind the grown-ups about road safety.

Ventspils Creative House
The Ventspils Creative House has had an interesting history, as a special interest educational institution. During the autumn of 1955, on 7 Lielā Street, a house which was built in the late thirties, was given to the children and thus it became the Pioneer House. Initially, the house was used by the Crafting Union, and during the war it was a hospital, but after, for a short time it had been home to committee of the Communist Party. Over time, the building was rebuilt, through the construction of the third floor and the modification of the interior for today’s needs and standards. Through the change in generations and ideologies, in 1990, the Pioneer House became the Student Creative House.

In 2010, in preparation for its 55th anniversary, the house staff and students were greeted in its new premises, located almost 100 meters of the existing building, 11 Maiznieku Street, the former building of the Latvian Union. With European, national and municipal funds the building was reconstructed, an extension was built on the 9th of August, 2010, and upon completion of the construction works, it became the possession of the Ventspils City Council. By changing its location, address, and partially its function – the institution changed its name to the Ventspils Creative House.
