Īvande river

The Īvande is a river in Courland (Kurzeme), Latvia, a left-bank tributary of the Abava. It flows through Kuldīga and Talsi municipalities. The river is 26 km long, with a total drop of 65.5 m.

It rises near the Kabile–Sabile road, in Kabile parish, Kuldīga municipality, flows through the southern part of Abava parish in Talsi municipality, and joins the Abava near Renda, in Rendas parish, Kuldīga municipality. The river has been known under several historical names, including Ivanda, Ivande, and Avanda; its upper course is also called Stropupe, and its lower course Mācītājupīte (or Mācītājmājas upīte).

Its major tributaries are the Renda and Rīteļa rivers. In its lower reaches near Renda, the river is dammed by the Renda Hydroelectric Power Plant reservoir.

The Īvande has two waterfalls located about 200 m apart: Īvandes rumba (roughly 2 m high and 10 m wide) and Valdātu rumba (1.5 m high and about 5 m wide). The river's lower reaches lie within the protected Abava Valley landscape area.
