The Old Pier of Šventoji

The Old Pier of Šventoji (Šventosios senasis molas) is one of the most photogenic and nostalgic sites on the Lithuanian coast. Unlike the bustling Pier of Palanga, these remains stand as a silent witness to ambitious dreams and the untameable power of the Baltic Sea.

Fragments of History: The origins of the pier date back to the interwar period (around 1925), when Lithuania sought to establish Šventoji as a major commercial port. Two piers were constructed, but nature proved too formidable—fierce storms and constant sand silting repeatedly blocked the port’s waters. During World War II, the structures were further damaged, and the port eventually lost its original function, leaving only the "skeleton" of the former docks in the sea.

Why Visit? Today, the old pier has become a sanctuary for romantics and landscape photographers. Its weathered wooden pilings, rising lonely from the water, create a surreal and mystical silhouette, especially during sunset. It is a place to experience the raw essence of the sea, away from crowds and noise. Here, you will often find local fishermen and soul-seekers watching the waves slowly reclaim what remains of this historic landmark.
