Renavas Village, Lithuania

Renavas is a small but culturally significant village in north-western Lithuania, located in the Mažeikiai District Municipality, within the Seda eldership, in the ethnographic region of Samogitia (Žemaitija). The village lies about 7 km north of Seda, on the left bank of the Varduva River, near the Seda–Židikai road, which makes it easy to reach as part of a regional trip.

Renavas is best known for Renavas Manor—one of the most interesting and well-preserved manor ensembles in Samogitia. The manor buildings and the landscaped park surrounding them strongly shape the identity of the village, making Renavas an appealing destination for visitors interested in Lithuania’s noble estate heritage and rural cultural landscapes.

The village has developed in close connection with its natural environment. The Varduva River, a tributary of the Venta, is one of the characteristic rivers of the region and has historically influenced settlement patterns and local life in this area. Even today, the riverside landscape contributes to Renavas’ calm and scenic atmosphere.

Renavas is also small in population. Sources indicate demographic changes over time—for example, the village had about 82 residents in 2011, while 2021 census-related data suggests around 70 inhabitants. This small scale gives Renavas a quiet, authentic countryside character typical of rural Samogitia.

Today, Renavas is an excellent stop for travellers looking for a slower pace: it offers a chance to combine a visit to a historic manor with peaceful walks in nature and a deeper look into Lithuania’s regional heritage beyond the main tourist routes.
