Omiķi ravine waterfall
Located in the Vārme parish of the Kuldīga district, the Omiķi Ravine Waterfall (Omiķu gravas ūdenskritums) is one of Latvia’s most visually striking yet hidden natural gems. Standing at an impressive height of approximately 3.5 – 3.6 meters, it ranks among the tallest waterfalls in the country, offering a dramatic view rarely seen in the Latvian landscape.
Origin and Features: Geologists believe the waterfall is a relatively recent formation, created when a drainage stream eroded the topsoil and exposed the underlying Devonian sandstone and coquina dolomite. This erosion carved out a small but rugged ravine with rocky outcrops, resulting in a vertical drop for the Omiķis Ravine stream. The waterfall is seasonal; while it roars during the spring floods or after heavy rain, the stream may dry up during the peak of summer.
