Nature Park Svente

Special natural values of Nature Park “Svente” have been approvingly recognised a long time ago, and in 2017 it will celebrate 40th anniversary of its establishment. Its central object is a clear landscape lake comprising three islands – Višņu, Linarta, and Sļapkinas salas, thus creating very romantic atmosphere. The lake is rather deep reaching 38 metres at its deepest point.

This is also a territory of many hillocks – Latgales Alpi or Alps of Latgale with hill Egļukalns on the very top of it, and the same height in the Latvian scale has been made even taller by a sightseeing tower. When reaching the top of it, one can be sure to have a bird's eye view discovering the magnificent landscape of Sēlija with Daugava valley, Svente lake, and hillocks that are specially decorated with gorgeous maple-trees; besides you can see Daugavpils from here as well. Here your eyes can also spot neighbouring Lithuanian towers of Ignalina. With a creative approach we can use the term “Range of hill Egļukalns” that is about 1 kilometre long and 0.5 kilometre wide saying that is well-suited for training ones endurance as surface rise follows lowlands and vice versa. A nature inquiry path at Svente Nature Park will lead you just till the sightseeing tower!

Svente Nature Park is not only an excellent landscape territory but also a very valuable settlement of specially protected animals and plants; this is proved by black-headed gulls, bitterns and little bitterns that nest here, as well as by a range of rare bird species.

Svente Nature Park is one of those places that should obviously be visited in the winter as well – there is a hill skiing resort with tracks of different length and level of difficulty.

Licensed fishing and a more extreme entertainment such as licensed underwater hunting take place in Svente lake.
