Monument to the Millennium of the Name of Lithuania, Klaipėda

The monument stands in Klaipėda on the Danė riverside, in a square next to the "Meridianas" shopping centre. It commemorates the thousandth anniversary of the first written mention of Lithuania's name (1009–2009) and was unveiled in 2009. It was created by sculptor R. Midvikis and architect V. Mazurkevičius, with the project initiated by Valentinas Greičiūnas.

The monument is made of granite and bronze. A granite sphere rests atop a roughly 4-metre granite column, and on the sphere stands a bronze equestrian figure holding a spear — Grand Duke Vytautas the Great on horseback. The lower part of the column bears the inscription "1009–2009" along with text in Latin and Lithuanian referring to the millennium of Lithuania's name.
