Monument to Jonas Jablonskis in Marijampolė

A monument dedicated to the prominent Lithuanian linguist Jonas Jablonskis (1860–1930), widely regarded as the father of the modern Lithuanian standard language.

• Location: Marijampolė, Lithuania (Kauno Street, in the square opposite the Marijampolė Rygiškių Jonas Gymnasium).

• History: Designed by sculptor Petras Aleksandravičius, the monument was officially unveiled on December 15, 1992.

• Design: The bronze sculpture depicts the linguist seated thoughtfully in a chair, mounted atop a polished red granite pedestal.

• Significance: Jablonskis attended the local gymnasium from 1872 to 1880, an institution that was later renamed in honor of his literary pen name (Rygiškių Jonas).
