Drawbridge over the River Venta
Location: Ventspils, Latvia
The project put into commission in 2010
About: The bridge across the river Venta was put into operation in 1963. The middle section of the bridge was constructed as capable of being lifted, but because of technical problems the bridge could not be used as a lift bridge. The bridge reconstruction started in August 2009, featuring building of a new beam, carriageway and middle section, as well as repair and strengthening of the pillars. When complete, the totally rebuilt bridge is widened to provide additional vehicle capacity on the bridge. It now has a two-lane dual carriageway with a cycle path and footpaths. The bridge is 280m long and it has a 32-meter-long middle (movable) section.
